Procedures > Eyelid reduction

One of the commonest early signs of ageing is excess skin in the upper eyelids. The excess skin may be primarily because there is a predominance of skin in this region or because the eyebrows have dropped due to gravity. In most cases there is an element of both. The excess skin in the upper eyelid may be sufficient to descend onto the eyelashes and even obscure the lateral field of vision.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can be carried out in numerous different ways. Your surgeon will advise you of the advantages of each method. If the individual is young there may just be bulging of fat which is very apparent on oblique lighting and the family history is quite often positive. Scars can be avoided by removing this fat via the conjunctiva quite simply. In the more mature there may be excess skin as well as fat protrusions both of which require addressing. In these circumstances an incision is usually made along the lower border of the eye so that either the fat can be removed or redistributed and then the skin removed in a conservative manner.

The surgery can be carried out under local anaesthetic and sedation or under a general anaesthetic. Speed of recovery relates to elevating the head above the chest in the post-operative period, and certainly by 1-2 weeks you are socially acceptable.

Testimonials

Naturally, with any sort of cosmetic procedure there are many questions that need to be answered and anxieties to be addressed. From my initial consultation until the final removal of my stitches Mr Harrison was there to reassure me and make me fully aware of my recovery process. His attention to every detail and, most importantly, your personal wellbeing, is outstanding. In fact, I have now had a second procedure with him.
