We have, over the last few years, generated a number of patients who suffer from severe migraine, which has been successfully treated with Botox into the glabellar region of the forehead.
Guryan, in the USA, drew this to our attention and we would confirm his findings that one third are cured during the activity of the Botox, one-third are distinctly improved and in one third it makes little difference.
It should be stated at the outset that nobody understands why migraine occurs, but certainly this treatment with Botox gives a great deal of relief. For those who have intractable, severe migraine who are virtually incapacitated with it and who seek a permanent cure they can be tested to see whether the Botox is effective and, if it is, then a small operation to remove the corrugator muscle via an eyelid incision can produce a permanent cure. We have done this in a few cases with remarkable success.
There must be numerous people who find migraine limits their quality of life, who could be treated by these techniques and their lives made significantly better.
